How see the iPhone's true Signal Strength

Hi there, if you want to see the true signal strength of your iPhone in numbers instead of dots, please read on.
This is a useful tool for Telco engineers like me.

First, you'll need enable Field Test Mode on your phone.
To do this, you'll need to open up your Phone app and dial the following number, *3001#12345#* then tap "Call."

After tapping the "Call" button, your phone will enter the test mode.

Now you'll notice that the dots changed to numbers. This is the actual signal strength of your mobile.
You can also tap and look at some of the technical info and current configuration of your phone. These information is useful for Telco engineers performing field tests and verifying network parameters.

To exit, just press the Home button and everything will be back to normal, no harm done.
You can always repeat the procedure if you need to see the numbers, but if you want to keep displaying the numbers without having to repeat the process every time, there's a way to do that.

After entering the test mode using the same procedure, instead of pressing the home button, press the power button until it displays the "slide to power off" screen.

After this is displayed, press and hold the Home button until the screen goes back to your home screen.

Now, the signal indicator should be in numbers instead of dots. These numbers will always be negative. Ideally, the signal is better when it is closer to zero. But typical values range from -40 (good) to about -130 (no signal).

Additionally, you can tap the number to switch between the dot & number mode, cool :)
